first of all, we are stuck in tennessee, came to visit for a few days and the car broke down...so it looks like we're going to be here for thanksgiving!!!! we'll probably make it home on friday. the only reason we came up was because scotty went to new york to cook at the james beard house (the event you won't find scotty's name here but chris told him he couldn't have done it if he hadn't invited scotty to come as his assistant) and the day he left was our anniversary and one of the kids' birthdays (you're thinking "jeez, he shouldn't have gone!!" but you would be wrong, it's an amazing opportunity for him to be invited to cook there and i would not let him miss it!) so anyway, i figured that we would just go visit family while he was gone, the rest is history...
we got to visit our bestest bestest friends on the farm =) and be fed good food again!! talking and playing all afternoon (of course there were chores to be done as well, which my kids...bless their hearts...tried to help with because they really like to, but poor little birthday boy dropped an egg =(, he felt so bad and so did i). it was really cold and i spent a lot of time in front of the stove cooking my butt. i said it was so cold i was moving to arizona, but my dear friends talked me out of that!!! i was sort of joking sort of serious, so we'll just see...
oh i just have nothing else to say!!! oh there is one thing. my art will no longer be in the gallery after this month. the owner is going on tour and closing shop. the end. but as soon as he straightens out his tech problems my work will be up on his site. i'll let you know when that is. i'm going to be doing another blog that will be just my paintings, and related thoughts specifically on art. scotty and i will be doing that next month probably, he is going to borrow his friend's really really nice kinda scared to borrow it digital camera. that should be fun.
my son started a blog...oh my. i didn't want him to after looking at all the pitiful teen blogs out there (and no he isn't a teen yet). but he really wanted to have a place to showcase his drawings and his ideas. so i helped him set it up. we tried to find some good blogs that were just for kids but they all were crap so i set him up on blogdrive. he's actually found a few blogs by other young kids with similar interests, that's pretty cool. he'll be like me just getting on there once a month, but i think that's plenty and it will give him time to do a new drawing for each entry. i'm excited for him because he is so excited.
have i mentioned that i hate blogs now, i'm not kidding, i really really do...really. if we had internet at home i swear my kids would starve and the house would be a wreck. i would get nothing done, no painting, no reading (except blogs), no playing....nothing. there is just so much stuff out there to look at...it is crazy. but i mostly hate the teen blogs. we have a generation of kids that have been raised on the internet and they don't know much else. there own worlds seem so small given the vastness of the "world" they live in. that didn't quite make sense, did it? i don't know, i keep thinking about my own teen years and how i felt all isolated and misunderstood. there's a lot of that now too, nothing has changed. except that these kids have other kids from all over who feel the same way. what is weird is that there are sites available to tell these kids just exactly how to have the right look to "be" the non-mainstream goth punks they strive to be. when i was my own version of this (i was more hippy goth though) i didn't have that kind of network to get all sucked into. i really was alone. i lived in a rural virginia town and i was the only freak!!! yes, that was the appeal of it, but still i can't imagine having hordes of teens just like me out there. i think the goths now (who refer to themselves as EMO) have created quite the little clique for themselves, they are the newest "thing to be" and not cutting edge at all...it's been around since the 60s or 70s. the beat poets, the hippies, and later the punk scene and then the 80s alternative scene (that's were i came in). it is nothing new. i'm realizing this could've been it's own post, oh well.
i really must go now. i have to shoot my kids with tranquilizer darts or send them outside. i took away video games and tv today because...well it's a long story. but they are now using all that stored up energy from sitting and running wild IN THE HOUSE...this must be stopped!
